Aunjanue has a reputation as an American actor as well as a producer and director. She is employed in film and television. Her career in acting began at the theatre. Then she appeared on numerous television shows as well as independent and mainstream movies. She became famous as Miranda Shaw in ABC's Quantico as well as on BET's epic series The Book of Negroes. In both roles, she was praised by critics and received various nominations and awards including the Television Critics Choice Award for Best Actress. Her first professional performance was as Ariel, on the stage in The Tempest. The credits on stage are Come and Gone Drowning Crow as well as Seeking the Genesis, a Broadway production of Joe Turner.
